Gift from the Forest

A crimson jewel

he pauses,

descends

a staircase made of

 apple branches,

one ebony eye

 fixed on his feeder –

Tasty seeds await.

One swift dive and

he is under cover

filling his belly

before soaring

away.

Damp sweet air

 a silver snow sky

bless him as he flies

home to his refuge –

the long needled pines.
